The Woodsmith Project - S73 Project Amendments : Planning Statement

Whilst ecology matters have been scoped out of the SES, it includes a shadow Habitats Regulations Assessment in respect of the proposed amendments at Woodsmith Mine (only) in order to determine whether the these will result in potential Likely Significant Effects (LSE) on the qualifying features and conservation objectives of any site forming part of the National Site Network (i.e. SAC, SPA, or Ramsar site), either alone or in combination with other plans and projects. Potential effects on the North York Moors SAC and SPA from road traffic exhaust emissions, specifically nutrient nitrogen and acid deposition, were screened in for Appropriate Assessment. Drawing on the best available information, the detailed modelling presented in this SES, and professional ecological interpretation, the Assessment concludes that the Woodsmith Mine Project will not result in adverse effects on the integrity of the North York Moors SAC or SPA, either alone or in combination. In accordance with the Habitats Regulations, no adverse effects on the integrity of North York Moors SAC or SPA, either alone or in combination, have been identified. The proposed amended scheme therefore accords with Chapter 15 of the NPPF; Strategic Policy H of the NYM Local Plan and; Policy D07 of the North Yorkshire Minerals and Waste Joint Plan.
