Commitment to delivering a positive local impact
Local employment
6.2 Despite the project slowing down and readjusting its timeline, the Woodsmith Project remains committed to local employment, and retains the target of 80% of employees living in the local area. Since construction started the project has had high level of local employment (between 61 – 76% of the workforce) and it is expected to remain within this range throughout construction.
Work with businesses in the region
6.3 The Woodsmith Project will continue to engage local suppliers and deliver benefits to the local area through this – its track record to date has been excellent as the local GVA and spending figures clearly show.
Create a long-lasting positive social impact
6.4 Anglo American is committed to continuing its “Thriving Communities Programme” as outlined above. These programmes will continue support young people to achieve their potential, support the growth of key sectors and connect people to opportunities, and improve the community environment. 6.5 Anglo American will maintain its commitment to donate annual royalty contributions of 0.5% of revenue from the project to the Woodsmith Foundation which provides funding for local community projects and programmes.
